digital preservation news aggregation
Inspired by the excellent @dhnow social news service, I’ve set up a news aggregator for digital preservation. The @digipresnews account follows people involved in digital preservation, and I use the Twitter Tim.es service to extract the top links of interest. This also provides an RSS feed, which is piped back into the Twitter account via twitterfeed.
Of course, this type of aggregation is only as good as its sources, so if I’ve missed a digital preservation tweeter, or included someone you think I shouldn’t have done, contact me @here or here.
around britain in 43 marathons...
Eddie Izzard is currently about two-thirds of the way through his attempt to run up and down the entire UK. He’s running a marathon a day, almost every day, for about eight weeks. He’s doing it for Sport Relief, so why not sponsor him for performing this feat.
Edinburgh. Used to live there, you know. Nice place. Been a while. Until last weekend. Visited the Blythes.

illustrating oil consumption
Occasionally, in comments on environmental stories and such, you see the old “we’re so small and the Earth is so big, we can’t possibly be to blame” line of argument. Of course, everything on the Earth affects the Earth, and vice versa, because everything interacts with everything else. Therefore, the question is really whether or not we have a significant effect on the whole planet. As a really basic way of assessing this, I’ve been trying to explore the potential consequences of the oil we use by illustrating the volume of oil that is consumed.
a simple website is a happy website
As you might have noticed, I’m in the process of re-jigging this website. The new look has been chosen largely just to keep things simple, as I don’t really have the time to maintain my own modules and theme code any more! So, expect a new, improved, yet stripped-down service from now on!
